The Broad's Family Weekend Workshops offer free art-focused activities and cooking demonstrations from acclaimed chef Timothy Hollingsworth's Otium restaurant, located next to the museum. Reserve free advance tickets for your family to guarantee entrance into the event. Walk-up entries available on a first-come, first-served basis.
Workshops give families the opportunity to make their own souvenirs to take home, inspired by works in the Broad collection. Family Weekend Workshops are for families with children ages 3 and up.
Families who reserve tickets in advance will receive wristbands when they check in onsite at the museum. Families without advance tickets will receive wristbands for entry into the workshops on a first-come, first-served basis.
Reserve Free TicketsWorkshop | Remake yourself using some of the techniques applied by Broad collection artists. Families will leave this workshop with a one-of-a-kind photograph inspired by the artistic practices of sculptor Charles Ray, whose work demonstrates his interest in sculpture, scale and everyday life, and Barbara Kruger, who explores mass media, gender roles and political issues.
Workshop | Mark Bradford is known for using discarded materials found on the streets of cities such as advertisements, flyers, billboards, comic books and more. Bradford applies many layers of these materials on the surface of his canvases, and then cuts, tears and sands them down to create his artwork. Create a wearable accessory made of recycled materials inspired by Bradford’s process and technique.
Workshop | Visit Carlos Cruz-Diez's brightly colored ephemeral intervention, Couleur Additive, at the corner of Grand Avenue & 2nd Street, then explore color interaction by making original designs with markers, clear film and a paper cutout. Using Cruz-Diez's additive color principles, families will make their own sample of a color additive.
Demonstration | Join Otium's Chef Terry for an interactive sushi demonstration on how to make your own California hand rolls at home! Cooking demonstrations take place every hour on the hour. Space is limited.
In the Galleries | Join our Visitor Services Associates in the third floor galleries for family-friendly pop-up talks on artists such as Jeff Koons, Andy Warhol, Barbara Kruger and more.
In the Galleries | Download The Broad’s free app or rent a device onsite to listen to “Looking with LeVar,” a family audio tour narrated by award-winning actor, director and education advocate, LeVar Burton.
