Nike athlete and motivational speaker Angela Manuel Davis has custom designed a workshop that will guide attendees to experience Mickalene Thomas’s exhibition more fully and openly. Built on Davis’s pillars of Motivation, Movement, Mindfulness, and Music, the workshop will prepare you to receive with intentionality the themes of the exhibition which itself highlights how Thomas has mastered and innovated within several disciplines, from mixed-media painting and collage to installation and photography. Joining Davis for a musical intervention is Josiah Bell, whose work is grounded in gospel and tells not just his story, but also a universal tale of resilience, faith, and the profound complexities of the human experience.
This is the second of a two-part series focused on the themes of healing and self-care found in The Broad’s special exhibition, Mickalene Thomas: All About Love. On June 16, we convened for a workshop organized and hosted by renowned speaker and thought leader Tai Beauchamp.
Tickets include same day access to The Broad, including Mickalene Thomas: All About Love and our third floor collection galleries during regular museum hours. All ability levels and bodies are encouraged to participate. We will physically move through the museum together, and the path we take meets ADA standards.
Tickets to this event do not include access to Yayoi Kusama’s Infinity Mirror Room—The Souls of Millions of Light Years Away (2013), and must be booked separately.

From his roots in Detroit, where the legacy of Motown and the spirit of the Church deeply influenced his sound, Josiah Bell’s path to greatness was clear from the start. A Canadian born child prodigy, Josiah began his journey at just 15, collaborating with gospel icons like Vickie Winans and Smokie Norful. These early experiences set the stage for a remarkable career, marked by Grammy-winning albums and gold-certified albums, establishing him as a master producer and songwriter.
Josiah’s influence extends far beyond the studio. His signature sound has elevated numerous TV shows and films, including HBO’s Lovecraft Country, Marvel’s Cloak & Dagger, and DC’s Birds of Prey, as well as projects like The Chi, Swagger, Power Book II: Ghost, Ava DuVernay’s Cherish the Day, and BET’s Twenties. He also co-produced the musical elements of Will Smith’s #1 New York Times bestseller, WILL. Josiah’s unparalleled ability to blend genres and create transcendent musical experiences has also made him a sought-after DJ, curating events for Jay-Z, Swizz Beats, Alicia Keys, Larry Jackson, and multiple iconic brands.
But it’s his latest album, Give It to God and Go to Sleep, that truly captures the essence of Josiah Bell. This 19-track masterpiece is a deeply personal reflection of his life’s journey, from the innocence of his youth in the sunshine band to the trials of divorce and the rediscovery of love. Each note carries his authenticity and raw emotion, forging an intimate connection with his audience. The album tells not just his story, but also a universal tale of resilience, faith, and the profound complexities of the human experience.
