The Broad presents a screening of PINE FLAT, 2005 (16 mm film, color, sound, 139 minutes) by Broad collection artist Sharon Lockhart. Featured in A Journey That Wasn’t, Lockhart’s Pine Flat Portrait Studio series (2005) includes intimate photographs taken of youth over three years in the rural town of Pine Flat, California. The film is composed of twelve ten-minute takes of the children in Pine Flat, reminding viewers that perceptions of time are deeply subjective.
REDCAT is located at 631 West 2nd Street in the heart of downtown Los Angeles on the northeast corner of the intersection of west 2nd and Hope Streets. Housed in the Walt Disney Concert Hall complex, REDCAT has its own street entrance on 2nd Street.
The REDCAT box office is open Tuesday through Saturday from 12–6 p.m., and 2 hours prior to each performance.
Los Angeles-based artist Sharon Lockhart offers subtle and carefully made imagery that both conceals and reveals its subjects. In her signature method, Lockhart stages photographs and films capturing routine life by immersing herself in the culture of her subjects. The Broad collection features more than 20 artworks by Lockhart, including selections from the Pine Flat Portrait Studio series, which are on view in A Journey That Wasn’t, and the film Pine Flat, 2005.
