This website is home to The Broad’s Diversity Apprenticeship Program (DAP) Toolbox. It complements the printed and PDF version of the toolbox. The toolbox features an introduction to the history and structure of the DAP and a toolbox to share best practices, lessons learned, and tools and resources for art handling and to help install similar programs at institutions nationwide.
Institutions big and small can use the DAP Toolbox and benefit from lessons learned by program staff, partners, mentors, and apprentices which are articulated in the publication. People inside those institutions who are dedicated to moving diversity, equity, and inclusion forward can also find guidance in the toolbox.
The publication and this website are divided into four sections.
Don’t forget to check out the introductory text, essays, documentation of conversations, testimonies, and closing statement, which help frame all four sections.
Already using the DAP Toolbox? We’d appreciate hearing from you! Share your thoughts and feedback with us by completing this quick survey. We’ll use the findings to continue to improve this resource for future users.
In this section, we share some preliminary documents and text to familiarize yourself with the DAP. We also share a bit about the DAP’s goals, how the program got started, and a timeline of major milestones and events. This section concludes with critical words on the importance of building trust.
This section provides an in-depth narrative of every aspect of the DAP design, from recruitment and hiring to evaluation. We share best practices and lessons learned, as well as words directly from apprentices and partners.
This section cracks open the door and gives a peek into the world of art handling. This guide contains a lot of helpful information about what it takes to be an art handler, including the qualities that make a good art handler, the skills that art handlers need, and the kind of common materials and types of equipment used to do this type of work.
This section contains supplemental readings, resources, and tools that will enhance your experience with the toolbox. Many of the resources were referenced in other sections of the publication, and we’ve collected them in one place to make them easier to find. We’ve also brought together all the DAP tools and resources referenced throughout the toolbox.
